I was certified as an Emergency
Medical Technician (EMT-B) in Jan 2002. I was previously certified as a
First Responder. My intent was to be able provide care while involved
in my other activities. I realized without ongoing use, my skills would
be minimal. I'm now a volunteer with Hanover Township Volunteer Fire
Company,
a volunteer Emergency Services Dept. I've been an officer for several years.
Hanover Volunteer Fire Company operates two Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances licensed by the PA Department of Health. Members carry pagers and respond from their homes to the station, and then to the scene. Our fire station provides Fire, EMS, and Fire police service, and many of our members are cross-trained. Fire provides EMS assistance for many of our more challenging calls, and EMS is dispatched to nearly every Fire call. At a Fire we provide "rehab", assuring firefighters are healthy and hydrated. We also swap their SCBA air bottles for them.
